Mounir Laggoune estimated that the new measure would reproduce the effects of the GAFAM tax, set at 2% and expected to rise to 3% in 2027. He wrote that, despite the expressed intention to make American tech giants contribute more to corporate tax in France, it would primarily be French companies that would bear the cost. According to him, Google had added 2% to invoices to cover this tax, and Meta had been doing the same since the summer. He added that the cost of the new measure would ultimately be passed on to customers, which would penalize the competitiveness of French companies and lead consumers in France to pay more. #GAFAM #Fiscalité #Compétitivité (translated)

Eric Duhaime commented on the appointment of Jacinthe-Ève Arel as chief of staff of the Parti québécois. He said he had known her as a conservative candidate in the 2022 elections and described her as brilliant and eloquent. He wished her success in her mandate related to government efficiency and regulatory easing, believing that Quebec needed to reduce the size of the state and advance conservative ideas. However, he felt that she was repeating the mistake made in 2018, when she ran for a coalition. According to him, the right was then used to display a diversity of opinions, while decisions remained on the left. He warned against the role of a facade right within the PQ, while expressing a desire to give the new government a chance and observe its measures to reduce the size and intervention of the state. Regarding Ruba Ghazal, who called for the departure of Jacinthe-Ève Arel, Duhaime argued that her act of waving a keffiyeh during her swearing-in at the National Assembly deprived her, in his view, of all legitimacy to criticize controversial remarks or actions. #Québec #Politique #Conservateur (translated)

Impact relayed, via Politis, a text signed by more than 140 personalities from different backgrounds, who denounced the normalization of racism in France after what they described as a racist terrorist attack in Trappes and La Verrière. The signatories mentioned the death of Pengo Bossio Wangi, 26 years old, and believed that the spread of hateful discourse in the media and political class, particularly since the violence of October 17, had contributed to creating an environment conducive to new racist violence. They also condemned the silence of the authorities and the absence, according to them, of calls for restraint and warnings against possible legal actions. The signatories stated that Pengo Bossio Wangi had not been targeted at random and cited the murders of Aboubakar Cissé and Hichem Miraoui, as well as attacks against Black, Arab, and Muslim individuals. They called for support for families and collectives and for the fight against racism. #Racisme #Solidarité #Dénonciation (translated)
