Caio Coppolla 1w

Caio Coppolla questioned whether the alternation of power, combined with the end of presidential re-election, would be a "threat to democracy." In the post, he mentioned Miriam Leitão, Ana Elisa, and Renan Santos in reference to the "Bolsonarist Dictatorship" and invited readers to subscribe to his daily newsletter.  https://t.co/xRF9SUXhRT https://t.co/OseTbPnaBq #Democracia #Política #Brasil (translated)

Antonio Tabet 2w

Antonio Tabet addressed voters who still supported Flávio Bolsonaro and stated that he was not a member of the Workers' Party, reminding them that he had publicly criticized the party and Lula. For him, the second round was not about opposing left and right or the PT and PL, but about democracy and authoritarianism, among other contrasts. Tabet said he understood those who wanted Lula out of the Presidency but classified voting for the Bolsonaro clan as self-sabotage, citing what he called their history and origins. He also warned that the family could perpetuate itself in power, despite calls for change. He further stated that bolsonarism did not represent the right and said he would support whoever contested against the Bolsonaros if Romeu Zema ran. #democracia #liberdade #autoritarismo (translated)

Kim D. Paim 2w

Kim D. Paim stated that he was not a politician and that, if he wanted to enter politics, he could have taken advantage of the elections in 2022 or 2026. He forecast that, in less than ten years, those advocating for the end of re-election would regret their position. According to Paim, the oligarchy that had governed the country since the coup against the Empire in 1889 was the only cohesive group in Brazil. He said that ending re-election would lead to constant power struggles, particularly harming the right and strengthening that oligarchy. He also pointed out a contradiction between the advocates of the measure and their admiration for European democracy, citing social-democratic leaders like Angela Merkel, who, according to him, remained in power for more than a decade. Paim argued that a national project and reconstruction required time, and he criticized changes in government every four or five years in the name of power alternation. He said he did not want that alternation and did not want to see the PT in power again. For him, the measure would prevent Brazil from taking back control from the oligarchy from the very beginning. #Política #Democracia #Oligarquia (translated)

Mariana Oliveira 2w

Mariana Oliveira stated that she did not intend to diminish the joy of those celebrating her candidate's performance, but found the provocations from Bolsonaro supporters about the PT to be funny. She said she had witnessed Lula and Dilma’s victories, the protests of 2013, Dilma's departure from power, Temer’s inauguration, Bolsonaro's election and defeat, and Lula's new victory. Oliveira described a possible defeat for Lula as a normal change of power, not as the end of the PT, and stated that he received 53,879,538 votes, which, according to her, showed that many people disagreed with the narrative that Brazil was finished. She also mentioned that Brazilians often wanted to change the “system,” understood as the current government, and affirmed that Bolsonaro was the first president not to be re-elected since redemocratization. Regarding 2018, Oliveira claimed that Lula was imprisoned and worn down in the media and public opinion, yet he still transferred 48 million votes to Haddad, who, according to her, had very low popularity in São Paulo. She said that supporters still had a way to go before making the provocations they desired and asked for calm. #PolíticaBrasileira #Eleições2022 #Brasil (translated)

Rafael Gloves 3w

Rafael Gloves stated that, in 2022, the Brazilian economy was growing, inflation was under control, the government had a surplus, investments were increasing, and violence was decreasing. According to him, in this scenario, a power shift in favor of Lula was seen as acceptable, also due to the media's narrative that Lula would be different and that the then-president was unsuitable for the position. Regarding 2026, Gloves said that the economic indicators had reversed, inflation was eroding the population's income, government debt and violence had increased, and investments were focused on those seeking high interest rates. He asserted that the country was close to a precipice and that, for this reason, the two years could not be compared. Gloves predicted that Flávio would receive votes even from people who did not like him, out of desperation. He said this gave him confidence that a Flávio government would save Brazil and would have no commitment to please anyone or to pay the Centrão, which, according to him, did not support him. #Economia #Política #Brasil (translated)

I can understand a 16-year-old turning on the "I don't care about politics, I want everything to burn" mode. They have no job prospects with AI, have only known economic crises, and still have at least 80 more years of life ahead. Many of us following here are in our 40s and 50s. We no longer have the privilege of waiting for Lula to finish breaking the country so that, if all goes well, things might start to improve by the time we are 60-70. Literally, our ONLY alternative is a change of power. To swap Lula for someone with less experience in structuring the state and less tendency to corrupt everything and everyone. Today that person is Flavio. In 4 years it could be another and then another. It's sad, but that's what we have. I do not want to turn 60 with Gleise, Bessias, Janja, Janones, and Lulinha's lawyer in the Supreme Court. I do not want to keep paying the bill for the endless social benefits, gas vouchers, free buses, and everything else that will be created until then to buy votes. I am tired of my money here being worthless abroad. I am tired of my R$ 100,000 here being just two months of salary for a fast food manager in the USA. I am fed up with Lulinha, Janja, Dirceu, Dino, Moraes, and the whole lot. If you're also tired of all this, anything other than voting for 22 is an irrational choice. And, in the worst-case scenario, if this whole mess continues, at least let it be other people robbing us and not the same ones from the last 20 years...
