Philippe Bouvard est mort à 96 ans. On parlera forcément des Grosses Têtes. Mais ce serait presque injuste tant sa vie raconte bien davantage. Avant RTL, avant les théâtres, les voitures de luxe, les casinos et les millions d’auditeurs, il y eut un petit garçon juif qui apprit très tôt qu’il valait parfois mieux ne pas être vu. Pendant l’Occupation, Philippe Bouvard et sa mère se cachent pour échapper aux arrestations. Son beau-père est arrêté par la Gestapo. Ses grands-parents adoptifs seront déportés à Auschwitz et n’en reviendront pas. Il faut peut-être partir de là pour comprendre la suite. Cette envie furieuse de réussir. De posséder. De montrer qu’on était arrivé quelque part. Bouvard rate trois fois son bac. Une école de journalisme lui explique qu’il n’est pas fait pour ce métier. En 1952, il entre pourtant au Figaro. Comme garçon de courses. Il transporte les photos, puis commence à rédiger leurs légendes. Ensuite quelques lignes. Puis des articles. Puis des chroniques. Le garçon de courses finira patron. Il disait volontiers aimer l’argent, les belles voitures, les bonnes tables. Il n’a jamais joué au faux modeste. Et puis il y avait son autre passion, beaucoup moins innocente : le jeu. Le poker, les casinos, les tapis verts. Il jouera tellement qu’il demandera lui-même à être interdit de casino en France. À la fin de sa vie, il reconnaissait sans détour : « Le jeu m’a coûté cher. » Chez lui, il pouvait travailler toute une journée pour gagner de l’argent et en reperdre une partie le soir autour d’une table. Contradictoire ? Évidemment. Bouvard l’était souvent. Mais derrière le personnage, il y avait surtout un extraordinaire découvreur de talents. En 1982 naît Le Petit Théâtre de Bouvard. Le concept semblait presque idiot : mettre de jeunes inconnus sur une scène et voir s’ils étaient drôles. Pas d’algorithme. Pas de followers. Pas de plan marketing. Du talent ou rien. Et regardez les noms qui en sortiront : Muriel Robin, Mimie Mathy, Michèle Bernier, Chevallier et Laspalès, Chantal Ladesou, Smaïn, Jean-Marie Bigard, Pascal Légitimus et ceux qui formeront les Inconnus … Bouvard s’est parfois trompé. Il refusa notamment Dany Boon. Mais il aura surtout vu avant les autres. Et puis il y eut Les Grosses Têtes. À partir de 1977, il transforme une émission de questions en immense table de bistrot radiophonique. Autour de lui : Jean Yanne, Jacques Martin, Jean Dutourd, Sim, Philippe Castelli, Claude Sarraute, Thierry Le Luron, Olivier de Kersauson, Jean-Claude Brialy, Pierre Bellemare, Michel Galabru et tant d’autres. De la culture, des vacheries, de l’érudition, de la mauvaise foi, des histoires de cul et des éclats de rire. Tout pouvait cohabiter. C’était peut-être ça, son génie. Faire de la culture populaire sans demander aux gens de choisir entre être cultivés et s’amuser. Pendant 37 ans, il fut le maître de cette table. Quand RTL tenta de le remplacer pour « rajeunir » l’émission en 2000, l’audience s’effondra. Quelques mois plus tard, on rappela le vieux monsieur. Bouvard n’était pas parfait. Il pouvait être cruel, susceptible, vaniteux, injuste. Certaines de ses plaisanteries appartiennent clairement à une autre époque. Mais justement. Pourquoi transformer les morts en saints ? Philippe Bouvard n’était pas lisse. Il était vivant. Terriblement vivant. Il aura traversé plus de soixante-dix ans de presse, de radio et de télévision. Écrit des dizaines de livres. Lancé des carrières. Fait rire plusieurs générations. Et lorsqu’on remet sa vie bout à bout, l’histoire reste assez vertigineuse. Un enfant qui devait se cacher de la Gestapo. Un cancre sans bac qu’on disait incapable de devenir journaliste. Un garçon de courses devenu directeur de rédaction. Un joueur qui perdit beaucoup. Un homme qui donna leur chance à des dizaines d’inconnus. Et une petite voix au micro qui finit par entrer, chaque jour, dans des millions de foyers. Le garçon qui avait appris à se cacher était finalement devenu impossible à ignorer. Au revoir, Monsieur Bouvard. Vous avez passé votre vie à chercher le bon mot. Panie Lewandowski, tym razem pozwolę sobie odejść od czysto prawniczego tonu i odpowiedzieć Panu bardziej osobiście. Przeczytałem dziesiątki, jeżeli nie setki książek, relacji i opracowań dotyczących niemieckich obozów. Zeszyty Oświęcimskie znam chyba lepiej niż niejedną książkę prawniczą. Ale dla mnie nie jest to wyłącznie historia poznana z dokumentów. Przez znaczną część dzieciństwa byłem związany z miejscem byłego obozu Auschwitz, gdzie moja babcia po wojnie pracowała jako kustosz. Dzięki temu znałem osobiście ludzi, którzy pamiętali tamten czas nie z książek, lecz z własnego życia. Rozmawiałem zarówno z byłymi więźniami, jak i z ludźmi należącymi wcześniej do załogi Auschwitz. Słuchałem ich bez pośredników. To nie jest dla mnie również historia obca rodzinnie. Członkowie mojej rodziny zostali zamordowani w Auschwitz. Mój dziadek był więźniem obozu w Lublinie, później Auschwitz. Przeżył. I wie Pan, co szczególnie zapamiętałem z rozmów z ludźmi, którzy naprawdę przeszli przez to piekło? Prosili o pamięć. O to, żeby nie zapomnieć, do czego zdolny jest człowiek. Ale wielu z nich mówiło również o przebaczeniu, pojednaniu i o tym, żeby ich cierpienia nie wykorzystywać do hodowania następnej nienawiści. Dlatego Pański wpis odbieram wyjątkowo źle. Abraham Kajzer pozostawił świadectwo własnego cierpienia i niemieckich zbrodni. Nie pozostawił Panu pełnomocnictwa do rozstrzygania w jego imieniu, jaki stosunek do współczesnych Niemców należy mieć osiemdziesiąt lat później. Ma Pan pełne prawo napisać: ja nie wybaczam. To Pańskie uczucia i Pańska decyzja - nic mi do tego jak kto został wychowany. Nie ma Pan jednak podstaw, by przedstawiać pojednanie jako kompleks niższości wobec Niemców i podpierać tej tezy cierpieniem ludzi, którzy sami niejednokrotnie potrafili zdobyć się na coś znacznie trudniejszego niż pamiętanie - na przebaczenie. Pamięć nie oznacza obowiązku nienawiści. Pojednanie nie oznacza zapomnienia Auschwitz ani relatywizowania niemieckich zbrodni. I dlatego wrócę do tego, od czego ta sprawa się zaczęła. Ambasador Niemiec oddał hołd zmarłej Wandzie Traczyk-Stawskiej - polskiej bohaterce, żołnierce Powstania Warszawskiego i osobie, która sama przez lata mówiła o pojednaniu. Pan uznał ten moment za właściwy, żeby urządzić pod jego kondolencjami polityczną połajankę o Niemczech i zadośćuczynieniu. To nie było upominanie się o pamięć. To było wykorzystanie czyjejś śmierci do bieżącego sporu politycznego. I właśnie to uważam w Pańskim zachowaniu za najbardziej podłe. A człowiek publicznie odwołujący się do chrześcijaństwa powinien tę różnicę rozumieć szczególnie dobrze. Każdym kolejnym wpisem coraz bardziej się Pan pogrąża.
