Despite the current drought and the significant regional differences in water problems, Elja Huibregtse, chair of the National Coordination Committee for Water Distribution, states that the Netherlands is not yet in the highest alert phase of water scarcity, partly thanks to improved water management measures since the drought of 2003, but there is a continuing need for awareness and measures to manage the situation.
