Čtyři minuty. Trocha soli. A z obyčejného diamantového prášku se stane materiál, který svítí a dokáže „cítit“ své okolí. Český tým právě ukázal, že výroba kvantových medicínských senzorů budoucnosti nemusí trvat týdny a stát majlant. Nanodiamanty jsou drobné krystalky diamantu, menší než virus. Když do jejich mřížky vložíte speciální defekt – dusíkovou vakanci (takzvané NV centrum) – začnou se chovat jako miniaturní světelné senzory. Po nasvícení září a jejich světlo se mění podle magnetického pole, teploty nebo elektrického náboje v jejich okolí. Dokážou měřit teplotu uvnitř živé buňky nebo detekovat jednotlivé molekuly. Až donedávna ale platilo, že kvalitní „svítící“ nanodiamanty se vyrábějí pomalu, draze a v množství menším než špetka. Standardní postup vypadal takto: diamantový prášek se dva týdny ozařoval v urychlovači částic a pak se dlouho žíhal při vysoké teplotě. Výsledek? Méně než gram použitelného materiálu. Mezinárodní tým vedený Petrem Cíglerem z Ústavu organické chemie a biochemie AV ČR (@IOCBPrague) však dosavadní postupy zásadně změnil. Metoda PTQ (Pressure and Temperature Qubits) trvá pouhé čtyři minuty. Diamantový prášek se smíchá s obyčejnou kuchyňskou solí a vloží do průmyslového lisu. Ten vytvoří tlak a teplotu podobné podmínkám hluboko v zemském plášti. Sůl se roztaví, obalí částice jako ochranný plášť a zabrání jejich spékání. Po ochlazení se jednoduše smyje vodou a zůstane čistý, fluoreskující prášek. „Dokázali jsme přípravu kvantových center více než tisíckrát zrychlit. Teď místo gramů vyrábíme kilogramy,“ říká první autor studie Michal Gulka. Jeden lis za týden vyrobí tolik materiálu, kolik by klasickou metodou vznikalo přes čtyřicet let. A co víc – nové nanodiamanty mají lepší vlastnosti: stabilnější světlo, delší „paměť“ a vyšší citlivost. Proč je to důležité? Kvalitní kvantové senzory se totiž teprve teď mohou stát cenově i prakticky dostupnými pro laboratoře i komerční firmy. Americká společnost MegaDiamond, která se na vývoji podílela, už plánuje průmyslovou výrobu. Aplikace zahrnují precizní lékařskou diagnostiku, mapování teploty a magnetických polí uvnitř buněk či detekci jednotlivých molekul. Jednou možná vzniknou i senzory, které pomohou dříve odhalit nemoci nebo sledovat procesy, jež dnes nevidíme. Český tým z ÚOCHB tak učinil významný krok vpřed. Nepředložil jen další vědeckou publikaci, ale vytvořil metodu, která z laboratorní rarity dělá materiál pro velkosériovou výrobu. A to je přesně ten typ úspěchu, na který můžeme být pyšní. P.
