Fatchecking is heel snel vervallen tot "We brengen de boodschap van de overheid die ons miljoenen subsidies geeft". Geen absurder voorbeeld dan "EU Factchek". Je moet deze site eens bekijken. Het is één propaganda -tool waarbij statements van de Europese Commissie zogezegd "gefactcheckt" worden. Om diezelfde Europese Commissie dan natuurlijk groot gelijk te geven. Het klimaat emmissie-systeem biedt duidelijke voordelen. (niet eens een claim, gewoon een standaard statement van de Commissie): Waar! Sociale media heeft ingrijpende effecten op hersenontwikkeling bij kinderen: toevallig opnieuw een statement van de Commissie om Tiktok aan banden te leggen, compleet onwetenschappelijk: Waar! De "gender-pay gap" dichten kan BNP met 10% verhogen: Waar! Opnieuw op niets anders gebasseerd dan ... statements van de Europese Commissie. Geweld tegen vrouwen komt voornamelijk uit migratiegroepen. Wat denk je? Natuurlijk niets van aan (terwijl in landen waar er echt onderzoek over mogelijk is, daar wel op zijn minst wat verbanden zichtbaar zijn). En zo gaat dat verder. Ook in Vlaanderen zijn we helaas in hetzelfde bedje ziek aan het worden met de plat-gesubsideerde factcheking-industrie. Het toppunt was een "factcheck" over Chatcontrol, waarbij er letterlijke passages van de Europese Commissie als "onderzoek" werden opgenomen. Iedereen die bedenkingen had, was een soort van complotdenker. Enkele weken later werd Chatcontrol (voorlopig) van de agenda gehaald. De factcheck werd half weggemoffeld. Elke journalist doet aan factchecking. Diegene die er specifiek subsidies voor krijgen, doen steeds meer puur propaganda-werk voor de overheid.
