❗️Μερικές φορές σταματάς για ένα σκυλί… και τελικά συναντάς ανθρώπους. ❤️🐾 ❗️Την είδα ξαπλωμένη ήσυχα σ’ ένα μικρό στενάκι, κάτω από ένα υπόστεγο. Ηλικιωμένη πια, κουρασμένη, με τα αρθριτικά της… ❗️Σταμάτησα και άρχισα να τραβάω. ❗️Και τότε, εντελώς τυχαία, πέρασε μια κυρία. Σταμάτησε, την πλησίασε, τη χάιδεψε και τη φώναξε με το όνομά της. ❗️Τη ρώτησα αν τη φροντίζει. ❗️«Ναι», μου είπε. «Η οικογένειά μου. Οι γονείς μου μένουν από πάνω και τη φροντίζουμε». ❗️Ξεκίνησαν κάποτε με μια μικρή κουβερτούλα. Και σιγά σιγά αυτό το σημείο έγινε το σπίτι της. Εκεί μένει χειμώνα–καλοκαίρι. Εκεί νιώθει ασφαλής. Εκεί υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που τη γνωρίζουν, τη φροντίζουν και τη χαϊδεύουν. ❗️Και απέναντι; Απέναντι μένει ένα άλλο, μαύρο σκυλάκι. Ο φίλος της. ❤️ ❗️Μέσα σε λίγα δευτερόλεπτα, αυτό που έμοιαζε με μια θλιμμένη εικόνα έγινε μια μικρή ιστορία ανθρωπιάς. ❗️Δεν χρειάζονται πάντα μεγάλα πράγματα. Μια κουβέρτα. Ένα πιάτο φαγητό. Λίγο νερό. Ένα χάδι. Ένας άνθρωπος που νοιάζεται. Κι ένας φίλος απέναντι… ❗️Μπράβο σ’ αυτή την οικογένεια. She stopped, approached her, stroked her gently and called her by her name. ❗️I asked if she was the one taking care of her. ❗️“Yes,” she told me. “My family does. My parents live upstairs and we take care of her.” ❗️It all started with a small blanket. Little by little, this place became her home. She stays there winter and summer. It is where she feels safe, surrounded by people who know her, care for her and give her affection. ❗️And across the way? Another black dog lives there. Her friend. ❤️ ❗️Within a few seconds, what at first looked like a sad scene turned into a beautiful little story of humanity. ❗️It doesn’t always take something extraordinary. A blanket. A bowl of food. Some water. A gentle touch. Someone who cares. And a friend across the way… ❗️Well done to this family. The Horizon of Reason: Finding Meaning in Atheism. Good day, everyone. When people hear the word "atheism," they often think of what it lacks. They focus on the prefixes and the definitions: a lack of belief in a deity. But to view atheism only as an absence is to miss the entire landscape of what it actually builds. Today, I want to talk about atheism not as a void, but as a vibrant, deeply responsible, and profoundly hopeful way of looking at our universe. At its core, atheism is a commitment to radical honesty. It is the decision to look at the vast, beautiful, and sometimes terrifying cosmos and say, "I do not know all the answers, and I will not invent stories to fill the gaps." Atheism relies on evidence, reason, and the scientific method. It is driven by the same curiosity that makes a child look through a microscope or a scientist peer through a telescope. It embraces uncertainty. In uncertainty, there is room for growth, discovery, and learning. When we accept that we do not have a cosmic blueprint, we become actively responsible for writing our own stories. A common misconception is that without a divine entity, there can be no morality. But atheism flips this dynamic. It suggests that kindness, empathy, and justice do not come from a fear of cosmic punishment or a desire for a heavenly reward. They come from us. We are kind to one another because we are social creatures who share this planet. We care for the sick because we know what pain feels like. We fight for justice because we want to live in a fair world. Our morality is human-centered. It is born from the profound realization that this life is all we have, and therefore, how we treat each other right now matters more than anything else. To an atheist, this life is not a dress rehearsal for an afterlife. It is the main event. This realization does not make life meaningless; it makes life infinitely more precious. Think about a rare gem. It is beautiful precisely because it is scarce. In the same way, a single human life—spanning just a few decades on a tiny blue planet—is a rare, breathtaking miracle of biology and physics. Because we believe this is our only chance, the time we spend with our families, the art we create, and the love we give become urgently important. We cannot afford to waste a single day. Atheism is not about tearing down anyone else's faith. It is about building up human potential. It is the belief that humanity is strong enough, smart enough, and kind enough to navigate the dark corners of the universe together, guided by reason and compassion. We are the authors of our purpose, the journey, life itself. We are the guardians of this planet. And we are the keepers of one another. Thank you.

🏖️ Το πρώτο μπάνιο του καλοκαιριού έκρυβε μια μικρή συνάντηση. ❗️Στο πορτμπαγκάζ του αυτοκινήτου έχω πάντα λίγες κονσέρβες για την περίπτωση που κάποιο αδέσποτο με χρειαστεί. Και σήμερα με χρειάστηκε αυτή η μικρή ψυχή. ❗️Ήταν πολύ αδύνατη και πεινασμένη. Έφαγε δύο κονσέρβες, ήπιε νερό και αργότερα της δώσαμε και λίγα κομμάτια από το φαγητό μας. Όταν χόρτασε, πήρε το τελευταίο κομμάτι και απομακρύνθηκε ήρεμα, σαν να ήθελε να το απολαύσει μόνη της. ❗️Πριν φύγουμε, ζήτησα από τους ανθρώπους της ταβέρνας, όταν τη βλέπουν, να της δίνουν λίγο φαγητό και νερό. Κι εγώ, όποτε έρχομαι εδώ τα Σαββατοκύριακα, θα περνάω να βλέπω πώς είναι. ❗️Το μπάνιο ήταν υπέροχο. Όμως η μεγαλύτερη χαρά της ημέρας δεν ήταν η θάλασσα. ❗️Ήταν ότι ένα πεινασμένο πλάσμα κοιμήθηκε απόψε λίγο πιο χορτάτο. ❤️ Γιατί καμιά φορά η ευτυχία χωράει σε δύο κονσέρβες, λίγο νερό και λίγη ανθρωπιά. 🏖️ Our first swim of the summer brought an unexpected encounter. ❗️I always keep a few cans of cat food in the trunk of my car, just in case a stray animal needs help. Today, that little soul did. ❗️She was painfully thin and obviously hungry. She ate two cans of food, drank plenty of water, and later we shared a few pieces from our meal. Once she was full, she picked up the last piece and quietly walked away, probably to enjoy it somewhere peaceful. ❗️Before leaving, I asked the people at the taverna to give her some food and fresh water whenever they see her.
