Het werd niet geplaatst, dus ik deel het hier met permissie: Voor de tweede keer in drie weken tekent Peter de Wit in deze krant een strip die niet gaat over wat Israël doet, maar over wat voor mensen Israëliërs zijn. Op 27 juli waren zij "smeerlappen" die hun eigen verdedigers in de rug schieten. Nu zijn zij "blije mensen", vijf figuren die opgewekt vertellen hoeveel plezier zij beleven aan het verjagen, bombarderen en zien creperen van Palestijnen. Wat u ook van die eerste vier figuren vindt, het onderschrift maakt er een uitspraak over een volk van. De serie heet "blije mensen" en de aflevering van deze week heet Israël. De vijfde figuur gaat nog verder. Die man draagt geen uniform en geen helm. Hij heeft een zwarte hoed, een baard, peies en een ronde bril, hij zegt dat God aan zijn kant staat, en vervolgens moedigt hij God aan. Dat is geen soldaat en geen minister.
