You may have heard of Klára Sovová in the past as the owner of Labská and Luční Boudy in the Krkonošsko region. An owner who sometimes completely disregards the fact that she bought properties right in a national park and isn’t exactly happy when someone interferes with how many cars are allowed to pass through the park or how carefully she should carry out construction work. However, you can also know her from the electoral billboards of the Motorists, where she announces her candidacy for the mayor of Prague next to Macinka, claiming that she has the courage to go against the grain. The story of Klára Sovová would be worth making a movie about how that twilight zone between privatization, business, offshores, and politics has worked in the Czech Republic since the revolution. Sovová was a part of all these areas in one person. But she is a person with enormous energy, so she managed to publish a porn magazine, occasionally throw some millions to a political party, and at the same time claim that entrepreneurs do not engage in altruistic activities. Kristina and I have been working on this story for the past few weeks and discussed it with many people who have known Sovová since her time at the National Property Fund. Interestingly, the vast majority of those approached did not want to speak. The best description of her and her surroundings is the sentence she replied with when asked how she came to the building of the Prague police headquarters, from which she received over 100 million crowns in rent from the police: "That is our secret, it’s not for the newspapers. I protect my know-how with that." However, I think we have managed to get at least a little glimpse into that know-how in the last few weeks, and now you can read about it. You'll find it in the next post.👇 (translated)
