In the article, Jérémy Silvares Jerónimo addresses the political return in Portugal, expressing skepticism about the effectiveness and seriousness of the rulers, questioning whether the motion of censure against the Government by Chega truly represents a significant change or if it is just another episode of the political-media circus that characterizes national politics, while criticizing the corruption and mediocrity that permeate the Portuguese elites.

What has become glaring is the great failure of the elites. The mission of leaders is to protect the inhabitants. When they fail at that, they suffer from discredit. We want more from them. They should leave! (translated)

Welcome back populism! The vote in Saxony, where AfD is close to an absolute majority, is a signal. Right and left have nothing to do with it: it is the people's rebellion against the elites. Germany has entered a serious political crisis, with a chancellor who wants war. (translated)

SciLight Global South Sustainable Development (GSSD) – Street Art as Participatory Infrastructure and Community Mental Health SOURCE: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/scilight-global-south-sustainable-development-gssd-sardella-ph-d--ojtlf/ It is with considerable satisfaction that I have the honour of announcing the publication of our scholarly contribution, produced in collaboration with Professor Matteo Mantuano (Unitré, Università degli Studi di Milano), with the generous support of the Stramurales International Street Art Festival, Stornara Life APS, under the direction of Lino Lombardi, and the Banda dei Fischietti of Stornara, Puglia, Italy: "Street Art as Participatory Infrastructure and Community Mental Health: The Case of the Stramurales Festival of Stornara Life APS" Global South & Sustainable Development, 2026, 1(1), 6 🔗 https://www.sciltp.com/journals/gssd/articles/2602003135 Published by Casa Editrice SciLight, with its headquarters at Suite 4002, Level 4, 447 Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia. What Does this Research Concern itself with? The present study examines the Stramurales International Street Art Festival of Stornara (Puglia) as an innovative instrument of participatory public health intervention, analysed through the theoretical lenses of environmental psychology, resilience theory, and the emerging framework of "EnvironMental Health." Stornara constitutes a paradigmatic instance of the structural violence that afflicts rural Southern Italy: youthful emigration, infrastructural deterioration, and collective despondency together form a constellation of deeply interconnected public health crises. The Stramurales model—founded by Maestro Lino Lombardi under the auspices of the association Stornara Life APS—addresses these considerable challenges by means of three cardinal democratic mechanisms: the voluntary participation of property owners, the democratic selection of mural content through annual community assemblies, and a system of transparent governance expressly designed to forestall appropriation by local political élites. Principal Findings ISTAT data document a reduction in the annual rate of youth emigration from approximately 175 per 1,000 young adults during the period 2014–2017 to approximately 118 per 1,000 between 2018 and 2022: a diminution of some 33 per cent, notably coincident with the festival's inception. Whilst one must naturally refrain from attributing this variation causally and exclusively to the intervention in question, the quantitative evidence integrates compellingly with a rich body of qualitative testimony: participants who now describe their community no longer as "a place from which one flees", but rather as "a place actively engaged in becoming something". The psychological mechanisms thus documented — affective regulation, social cohesion, narrative reconstruction, and collective self-efficacy — are produced not by the murals as such, but by the democratic process through which they are brought into being. It is participatory governance, one must insist, that constitutes the genuine therapeutic agent. Why Does This Matter at the Global Level? Through comparative analysis with experiences drawn from the Global South—among them Casa Kolacho in Medellín, post-apartheid initiatives in South Africa, and festival projects within the Brazilian favelas—the study demonstrates the transferability of this model to contexts of structural marginalisation of markedly different character and provenance. The implications for public policy are unambiguous: democratic governance of urban space is not a procedural nicety but a fully-fledged therapeutic intervention, at once economically sustainable and eminently replicable. This work forms part of a broader research programme initiated with the publication of Street Art as Public Health Infrastructure in the Harvard Health and Human Rights Journal, and aspires to contribute, both theoretically and empirically, to the consolidation of an integrated discipline at the intersection of cultural policy, urban design, and public health. I remain profoundly grateful to all those in Stornara who possessed the singular courage to paint their own future.

Contrary to what many want us to believe, Europe has its own identity and culture. We are much more similar than some elites want to sell us. Europeans must unite and defend themselves from the threats and enemies that hate us. (translated)

#passion #voitures #grosbonsens

September 11 transformed the global perception of America, shifting from an unquestionable moral reference to a focal point of distrust and criticism, culminating in a crisis of credibility for American elites and the emergence of political movements that challenge the traditional establishment. The value of the far right for the elites is that it shifts the axis of conflict. Where the left sees social classes and an above against a below, the far right positions an inside against an outside and blames immigrants and women for the discontent. (translated)

The Victimhood Economy: Why Young People Prefer Socialism Western civilization is increasingly shaped by entitlement and a culture that rewards displays of victimhood. At elite universities, disability claims have risen: 18% of male and 22% of female undergraduates report a disability, and 54% of non-binary students, with higher rates at some wealthy schools than at community colleges. The issue isn’t genuine disability; it’s what happens when accommodations become status and advantage. Extra time, separate housing, and exemptions can turn diagnosis into leverage. When weakness is rewarded, some will learn to perform it. This matters because today’s students become tomorrow’s institutional elites. If grievance produces rewards, the lesson may spread into journalism, government, HR, academia, and business, letting beneficiaries inherit the power to expand the system. Research on victimhood signaling raises uncomfortable questions: people who habitually emphasize victim status, on average, show higher narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy—not to say genuinely suffering people are manipulative, but that systems rewarding victimhood create incentives for manipulators to exploit the category. Rob Henderson describes this as a status game: in elite institutions, grievance can become the currency of virtue signaling. For some, the rational strategy is to manufacture grievance and convert it into status. Nietzsche similarly argued that displays of helplessness can become covert power, while pity can create moral superiority for the caregiver. The danger isn’t compassion; it’s a culture that turns suffering into currency and teaches ambitious people that the easiest route to power is to claim they are powerless.

Leftist “Empathy” Is Actually Narcissism Leftist “empathy” is often narcissism, not real compassion. Over the past decade, Western politics has debated whether empathy is the highest value—yet many policies justified in its name have produced serious unintended consequences: safe-supply programs, lenient bail, mass migration, identity-based social policy, and gender medicine for minors. Hannah Arendt helps explain why. In *On Revolution*, she contrasted the American Revolution’s focus on institutions and limits on power with the French Revolution’s “politics of pity,” an effort to eliminate suffering through political action. Robespierre’s compassion for the masses helped justify terror. Pity isn’t compassion: it creates a hierarchy between the person who pities and the person pitied. Once you claim to represent “the oppressed,” you can stop listening to real people. Much progressive “empathy” projects idealized versions of others, erasing cultural differences and treating disagreement as ignorance or prejudice. Adam Smith warned about the “man of system,” who thinks society can be rearranged like chess pieces, ignoring human wills. Dostoevsky argued abstract love is easy; loving real people is hard. Nietzsche described a morality that flatters weakness and condemns what rises above the herd, while Orwell questioned whether some socialist intellectuals truly loved workers or simply used them to vent resentment. Rob Henderson calls these “luxury beliefs”: status-providing ideas for elites that impose costs on those below them. The moral prestige is immediate; the damage unfolds over decades. So “suicidal narcissism” may fit better than “suicidal empathy”: projection, superiority, and power disguised as compassion.
