Félix de Bedout stated that a thread from María Paz Gaviria showed that the controversy over Pizarro's hat and the alleged glorification of a guerrilla fighter had served as an excuse for a deeper measure. He claimed that what happened at the National Museum had been a purge comparable to the Nazi campaign against so-called degenerate art, aimed at imposing an official idea of acceptable art. De Bedout pointed out that the measure had been presented as a fight against "woke" culture, despite many of the censored works and objects being from before that term became popular. He also accused those who ran the national cultural institutions of acting with great ignorance and said that, unlike some Nazis who removed works to appropriate them while admiring their authors, in Colombia they did not understand what they were seeing. Finally, he highlighted the response from cultural institutions and figures in the country who, as he wrote, did understand the subject, and referred to the phrase about pulling a gun upon hearing about culture.
