Gisteren besloot ik na meer dan tien jaar weer eens naar Scheveningen te gaan. Ik heb dat deel van Den Haag lange tijd bewust vermeden, omdat de verhalen over achteruitgang me al jaren bereikten. Maar er was een worship-bijeenkomst aan het einde van de boulevard, en dus reed ik toch met hoge uitzondering die kant op. Vanaf de parkeergarage liep ik ongeveer twintig minuten over de boulevard. Wat ik onderweg zag en ervoer, was ontnuchterend. De lucht hing zwaar van de wietlucht, bijna de gehele route. Overal stonden groepjes jonge mannen, overwegend van niet-westerse afkomst. Hun gedrag was openlijk intimiderend. Ze schreeuwden naar langslopende vrouwen, maakten obscene gebaren en liepen soms agressief op hen af. Er werd ook intimiderend geschreeuwd en getoeterd uit auto's. Wat mij vooral trof was de selectiviteit: deze intimidatie was vrijwel uitsluitend gericht op westerse, blanke vrouwen. Vrouwen met een hoofddoek of nikab werden met rust gelaten. Het was een rauwe confrontatie met een realiteit die velen liever niet hardop benoemen. Wat ooit een levendige, typisch Nederlandse boulevard was, voelt nu op veel plekken als een gebied waar de publieke ruimte niet meer vanzelfsprekend veilig en beschaafd is. De schaamteloosheid waarmee vrouwen werden lastiggevallen, in het volle daglicht, was stuitend. Dit gaat verder dan een eenmalig incident op een drukke boulevard. Het is het zichtbare gevolg van jarenlang beleid waarin massale immigratie uit samenlevingen met sterk afwijkende normen en waarden is toegelaten. Het resultaat is zichtbaar: parallelle normenstelsels op straat, waarin bepaalde groepen zich kennelijk vrij voelen om westerse vrouwen als prooi te beschouwen. Tegelijkertijd hoor je in Den Haag en in de media vooral verhalen over “femicide”, “veiligheid voor vrouwen” en campagnes als “De Nacht is van Ons”. Maar het structurele straatintimidatie door groepen jonge mannen van met name Marokkaanse, Syrische, Afghaanse en andere niet-westerse herkomst wordt stelselmatig verzwegen of ontkend. Wie het toch benoemt, riskeert al snel het label “extreemrechts” of erger. Ik kots van die hypocrisie. Nederland heeft de veiligheid en de leefbaarheid van zijn eigen burgers te grabbel gegooid. Het is hoog tijd dat de verantwoordelijke bestuurders/beleidsmakers hier keihard voor verantwoordelijkheid gehouden gaan worden. Dit kan niet zo langer. #Scheveningen #Straatintimidatie #Veiligheid
