I am surprised that it is said today that E. Guillaume Herblot 🎖️ 6d

Guillaume Herblot wrote that BFMTV had canceled an interview scheduled the day before with Éric Zemmour at the end of the morning, following what he described as a racist attack in Trappes. He attributed this decision to a petition from MP Benjamin Lucas of Génération.s, which denounced a "provocation" and "complicity," alongside the cancellation by the channel's journalists' association and the judgment that the timing was indecent. Herblot condemned what he considered censorship and felt that Zemmour had been sidelined despite his prior invitation to the events. He also claimed that Zemmour had been warning for years about the rising tensions and violence of this kind, and that BFMTV journalists had themselves been attacked on the ground. The author linked this cancellation to the ideas of Jean-François Revel in *La Tentation totalitaire*. He described Revel as a leftist intellectual who gradually became close to the right and liberalism and argued that the temptation to control speech could also exist on the left, particularly under the guise of fighting racism and media accountability. Herblot finally warned that other voices could be pushed aside and believed that censoring debate weakened the Republic. #LibertéDExpression #Censure #DébatSociétal (translated)

Six months before the election, the French Mileistes believed that Philippe and Attal had no chance of winning, as they would have to account for Emmanuel Macron's record. They criticized them for not proposing anything and judged their work to be mediocre. The movement considered Retailleau's draft program interesting, while regretting that it lacked details and did not plan to address pensions. They believed that his campaign would be difficult due to his tenure at the Ministry of the Interior and that he had already lost the battle against Lisnard. The French Mileistes advised him to quickly rally behind the latter. Regarding Lisnard, they noted a favorable dynamic on social media, in polls, and for the growth of his party. They described him as a convinced liberal and believed he was the only one who could convince retirees to accept a reduction in their pensions. However, they found it difficult to assess his program, as few definitive elements had been published, and wondered if he could make up for his lack of notoriety in six months. According to them, he would also have to respond to accusations of weakness from the right and potential compromise with the Macronist center. They believed he needed to convince 30 to 40% of the French to embrace liberalism. The French Mileistes considered Marine Le Pen the clear favorite of the election but described her party as historically socialist in economic terms. They praised the change in tone related to the recent presentation of a budget she wanted to be responsible, while judging her calculations so poor that it could, according to them, be seen as dishonesty or amateurism. They believed that without a change in economic direction, she risked leading the country to bankruptcy. Concerning Zemmour, they recalled his historically antiliberal position and attributed a genuine communication effort in favor of liberalism to Sarah Knafo. They considered his change in economic discourse credible, as they saw the economy as secondary for Zemmour, but believed that his budget lacked credibility if it aimed to simultaneously reduce the deficit and taxes. They asserted that Zemmour suffered from a very bad image in public opinion and had almost no chance of winning. In their eyes, R! should have presented Knafo. #Élections2024 #PolitiqueFrançaise #Libéralisme (translated)

Lex Hoogduin wrote that he believed change was possible, but not in the way that the cabinet and the left envisioned. He advocated for a peaceful classical-liberal revolution with a smaller government, fewer rules, bureaucracy, and civil servants. According to him, the government should free citizens and protect their property, while reducing the tax burden and maintaining a limited safety net for people who faced real setbacks. He also argued for space for a revival of an independent civil society outside of the state, with communities in various fields. #liberalisme #overheid #belasting (translated)

Lysandre wrote that some people believed in 2026 that the country was bankrupt due to liberalism. He contested this view by citing mandatory levies equivalent to 45% of GDP, public spending representing 57% of GDP, and about half of that spending dedicated to social benefits. https://t.co/V3z1KoAqiE #libéralisme #économie #politique (translated)

The account Les Mileistes Français noted that David Lisnard was too moderate for their taste and that they would undoubtedly support a more liberal candidate if one existed. However, they deemed that there would be no better option in 2027 and that Lisnard would have a chance, albeit a slim one, to win. The account added that the French were not ready to go further and that they believed Lisnard was sincere in his liberal commitment. According to them, the implementation of Lisnard's program could prevent a catastrophic bankruptcy and steer the country back in the right direction. The account mentioned that they were desperate a few months ago, but that Lisnard's candidacy now gave them a glimmer of hope, while specifying that they believed in it "a little." #Libéralisme #Politique #France (translated)

Generation⋅s has also chosen Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the upcoming presidential elections! A clear, coherent, and courageous political decision by Generation⋅s. By choosing to start negotiations with La France Insoumise to support Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy, Generation⋅s has opted not to confine itself to a socialist primary and to face the political reality of the moment. This decision comes in a context where the far right continues to progress and strengthen its political and institutional foothold. In the face of this risk, the division of the left cannot become fatality. It must not also lead to a dilution of the convictions of those who advocate for a profound transformation of our social, ecological, and democratic model. This is also why this decision by Generation⋅s can be considered coherent: it prioritizes the unification of the left willing to break from liberal policies around a clearly identified project, rather than the multiplication of candidacies and competing approaches. In this configuration, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy appears, for those who defend this political line, as the only one today able to widely unify the left of rupture and offer an alternative to both liberalism and the far right. The danger would be to allow the divisions of the left to further open space for the far right, even as some convergences can be observed between certain right-wing forces and the far right. In light of this situation, building a solid, independent, and popular left alternative is more necessary than ever. So let us commend the decision of Generation⋅s. It marks a choice of political coherence: uniting the left forces that want to break from liberal policies, defend social and ecological gains, and construct a true alternative against the far right. The question is no longer about how to organize yet another primary. It is about how to build, right now, the popular unity capable of carrying a transformative left.
