Mit ungewöhnlich klaren Worten hat der kasachische Präsident Kassym-Schomart Tokajew bei der gemeinsamen Pressekonferenz mit Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz dem westlichen Narrativ eine deutliche Absage erteilt. Während der deutsche Regierungschef erneut die russische Seite für mangelnde Gesprächsbereitschaft kritisierte und die fortgesetzte Unterstützung der Ukraine betonte, stellte Tokajew Putin als „herausragenden Staatsmann“ und die „am besten akzeptable politische Figur“ dar – und zwar ausdrücklich nicht nur für Zentralasien, sondern auch für Europa und die Welt. Diese Einschätzung, geäußert direkt an der Seite des deutschen Kanzlers, rückte die europäische Führungsspitze in eine unangenehme Lage.
