Έτσι ο μικρός Σπύρος έμαθε να μιλάει, να περπατάει και έφτασε σχεδόν μέχρι το σχολείο μεγαλώνοντας, με «έναν πατέρα ιδεατό». Στη συνέχεια ο Αλέκος Χαλβατζής έκανε κάτι δύσκολο. Και συγκλονιστικό Δεν μίλησε μόνο για τον αγωνιστή, τον κομμουνιστή, τον επαναστάτη. Μίλησε για τον άνθρωπο πίσω από όλα αυτά. Για τις αντιφάσεις του, τις πληγές του, τις αδυναμίες του. Όπως αναφέρει ο Αλέκος, αυτοί ακριβώς οι κανόνες τούς επέτρεψαν να περάσουν «μέσα από φωτιά και από σίδερο» και να μη λυγίσουν. Είχαν όμως μεγάλο κόστος. Πίσω από τις ιστορίες των «χαλκέντερων» κομμουνιστών υπήρχαν άνθρωποι με ουλές και πληγές, άνθρωποι που πολλές φορές δεν είχαν μάθει ούτε να πουν στους πιο κοντινούς τους: «δεν είμαι καλά». Γιατί ένας επαναστάτης δεν παύει να είναι άνθρωπος. Η γενναιότητα δεν σημαίνει απουσία φόβου, πόνου ή ψυχικής εξάντλησης. Και η αναγνώριση της ανθρώπινης ευαλωτότητας δεν μικραίνει έναν αγωνιστή. Τον κάνει πραγματικό. Και ύστερα περιέγραψε μια από τις τελευταίες αναλαμπές-στιγμές χαράς του Σπύρου Χαλβατζή.
