Europa verplicht Vlaanderen niet om dat volledige distributienet op te doeken. Wallonië laat gas voorlopig als verwarmingsoptie bestaan waar het net beschikbaar is. Frankrijk kiest voor een geleidelijk traject richting 2050. Duitsland heeft in juli zelfs opnieuw méér keuzevrijheid ingevoerd: gas blijft mogelijk, terwijl de brandstof tegen 2045 klimaatneutraal moet worden. In Italië staan nog gewoon LPG-tanks bij woningen. Gas in de tuin, letterlijk. Griekenland geeft in 2026 zelfs nog verwarmingssteun voor aardgas en LPG. En de Vlaamse regering? Die bouwt een wettelijk kader om delen van het aardgasnet uit dienst te kunnen nemen. Niet omdat Europa dat oplegt. Niet omdat er geen alternatieven bestaan. Dus waarom moet Vlaanderen per se een keuze afpakken die andere Europese landen hun burgers wél laten? Waarom vindt de Vlaamse regering zichzelf zoveel slimmer dan haar eigen burgers dat ze niet alleen het klimaatdoel wil bepalen, maar blijkbaar ook waarmee wij straks ons eigen huis mogen verwarmen?
