This is the Old Country Road in Sankt Georgen in the Black Forest. A 19-year-old woman was walking on this sidewalk on Monday afternoon around 5:30 PM. A 23-year-old Syrian then suddenly attacked her from behind and hit her with his fist so hard on the back of the head that the young woman fell to the ground. Fortunately, several passersby came to the 19-year-old's aid, causing the attacker to flee. He was quickly found during the immediate search. He was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. I have inquired with the police in Konstanz about the circumstances under which the 23-year-old was admitted to a psychiatric clinic, whether he has already come to the attention of the police for violent crimes, and whether he is still in the clinic or has already been released. The response came earlier. Due to the assumption that there is a danger to others, the suspect was taken to the clinic. The police were already aware of the Syrian from the past, but not only for bodily injury offenses. The police do not know if the suspect is still in the clinic. I would like to point out again that Chancellor Merz promised before the elections to permanently remove such offenders from the streets by placing them in indefinite detention for deportation. That was a lie. Therefore, the police have little recourse against these offenders, other than a few hours of detention or a few days in a clinic, to protect the public from them. Such an attack against random victims in public space is unfortunately usually not enough to issue a detention order. The 23-year-old will soon be running free among us again. (translated)
