Ik had net een gesprek met iemand die overwoog om al dan niet airco te installeren. Hij was tot de conclusie gekomen om het niet te doen, want: “want airco is slecht voor het milieu.” Waarop ik vroeg: “Waarom zeg je dat?” Antwoord: “Omdat airco veel stroom verbruikt.” Waarop ik dan weer vroeg: “Oké. Maar waarom is stroom verbruiken dan per definitie slecht voor het milieu?” Gevolgd door een stilte. Ik voegde er nog aan toe: “Als je het in de context van ‘het milieu’ bekijkt: die stroom kan toch afkomstig zijn van zonnepanelen, windmolens of kerncentrales?” Opnieuw geen antwoord. En dát vond ik eigenlijk veel interessanter dan de discussie over wel of geen airco. Ik laat hier trouwens in het midden of airco goed of slecht is voor het milieu. En het klimaat laat ik er al helemaal buiten hier. —> Mijn punt is dat “het is slecht voor het milieu” blijkbaar zo’n automatische reflex is geworden dat sommigen zelfs niet meer nadenken over waarom dat eigenlijk zo zou zijn. Als één simpele “waarom?” voldoende is om de redenering de facto te doen stoppen, heb je dan wel een eigen beredeneerde mening of reageer je gewoon vanuit een opgelegde overtuiging? #milieu #airco #klimaat
