TV21 Biography by Andy Kellman The new wave band TV21 formed in the late '70s, comprising drummer Colin Maclean, guitarist Ally Palmer, bassist Neil Baldwin, and vocalist/guitarist Norman Rodger. The band took their name from Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson's fanzine. After releasing their first two singles on Powerbeat in early 1980, they recorded a session for John Peel's BBC radio program. Another pair of singles followed for the Demon label in 1981. Maclean split and was replaced by Ali Patterson, a former member of the Rezillos. Deram snapped the group up and issued A Thin Red Line in late 1981, the band's only long-player. Renowned producer and musician Ian Broudie (Original Mirrors, the Lightning Seeds), who had produced one of the group's earlier singles, loaned his skills to one of the songs on the record. Yet another single followed in early 1982, and the group's potential hit a peak when they opened a series of shows for the Rolling Stones as they toured Scotland. However, TV21 felt they had reached an impasse musically and opted to break up by the middle of the year. https://hvdommelen.nl/t/TV21.html

What does it actually mean to live from music in Estonia? For an independent musician, the answer is more complicated than it sounds. I have recently been fortunate enough to experience something that many musicians dream of: I can live from my music. I compose, produce, perform, write, run a music label and organise concerts. After years of combining music with other jobs, I finally have the freedom to make my living from the thing I have always wanted to do. It sounds wonderful. Well, it is wonderful. But it is also a struggle that is rarely visible from the outside. As an independent artist and entrepreneur, I do not simply receive money for making music. I have to create that income through my company, pay the costs of running the business, pay taxes, and then pay myself a salary. There is no employer absorbing the administrative and financial burden behind my work. I am simultaneously the artist, producer, promoter, employer and employee. At the moment, my income is modest. I pay myself roughly €900 because that is what my business can realistically sustain. Yet for my company to pay me that amount, the actual cost is around €1,370. Approximately €470 goes towards social tax and other mandatory employment related payments. And this comes after VAT has already taken its share of my business activity. That is the part of the discussion that is often missing when we talk about taxation. #estonia #estonianculture #music #tax #eutax #musictax #concert https://tunitemusic.com/post/an-independent-artists-view-of-estonias-24-vat/

In a career spanning more than five decades, few musicians have achieved the same level of reverence for Ludwig van Beethoven’s late piano sonatas as Mitsuko Uchida. Her new release; Beethoven: Piano Sonatas, Opp. 109‑110‑111, captures a live performance at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall in October 2025, marking her second and final recording of these monumental works. The album follows her acclaimed 2006 studio version and the Gramophone Award‑winning Diabelli Variations, which earned her a Grammy nomination in 2023. #MitsukoUchida #Beethoven #PianoSonatas #Opp109 #Opp110 #Opp111 #SuntoryHall #LiveRecording #ClassicalMusic #BeethovenLateWorks #MusicCritique #GramophoneAward #GrammyNominee #ClevelandOrchestra #JapaneseConcert #ClassicalNewReleases https://tunitemusic.com/post/mitsuko-uchida-beethoven-piano-sonatas-opp-109-110-111-new-release/

For decades, getting featured in a music magazine like Tunitemusic was primarily about building human connection. A well-written, deeply descriptive album review or an insightful artist feature allowed independent musicians, contemporary composers, and instrumental artists to share their narrative, establish cultural credibility, and reach a dedicated audience of music lovers. While the human element of music journalism remains entirely irreplaceable, a quiet revolution has taken place behind the digital curtain. The rise of advanced AI search engines, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI Overviews (AIO) has fundamentally rewritten the rules of music discovery. Today, press presence is no longer just a tool for public relations; it is the single most important lever for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). If you want artificial intelligence to recognize you, recommend your compositions, and talk about your music, you need professional reviews written about your work. #MusicPromotion #MusicJournalism #IndependentMusician #MusicReviews #ComposerLife #MusicPR #Neoclassical #AmbientPiano #MusicDiscovery #IndependentArtist #GenerativeAI #MusicMarketing #ContemporaryClassical #Tunitemusic #ArtistsOfTomorrow https://tunitemusic.com/post/ai-search-is-changing-how-music-fans-discover-you/

Mandala unfolds like a ritual. Its music does not rush toward melodies or familiar structures but instead builds its identity through pulse, repetition, and movement. What begins as a sonic landscape of drums and flutes gradually reveals itself as a carefully crafted work of remarkable depth and intensity. The album “Mandala” brings together an impressive cast of musicians: Yosuke Yura, Kaoru Abe, Rie Hirata, Miku Shibata, and Atsushi Doi, with Estonian vocalist Liisi Koikson performing lyrics written by Maian Karmas. The result is a fascinating cross-cultural collaboration that never feels forced or artificial. Instead, it allows each artistic voice to serve the larger musical vision. #EstonianMusic #JapaneseMusic #TaikoDrum #LiisiKiokson #Mandala #MusicAlbum #MandalaAlbum #CD #PhysicalRelease #MusicCD #JapaneseFlute #EstonianVocals https://tunitemusic.com/post/mandala-a-powerful-meeting-of-japanese-tradition-and-estonian-voice/

Forty-seven years after its initial release on The Wall, Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” has been radically stripped of its stadium-rock grandiosity and refashioned into an urgent, devastating indictment of geopolitical apathy. Roger Waters has teamed up with acclaimed Palestinian musician Mona Miari to deliver “Comfortably Numb – Reimagined,” a haunting piece of protest art aimed directly at the ongoing horrors and systemic violence inflicted upon the people of Gaza by Israeli forces. #RogerWaters #MonaMiari #ComfortablyNumbReimagined #PinkFloyd #ProtestMusic #FreePalestine #StandWithGaza #ArtAsResistance #MusicWithAMessage #EndTheOccupation #HumanRights #SocialJustice #ArtistsForPalestine #Decolonize #StopTheGenocide https://tunitemusic.com/post/roger-waters-comfortably-numb-reborn-to-shatter-silence-on-gaza/

A ballerina walks into a bar… It sounds like the setup to a joke, but at Tallinn’s intimate Heldeke venue, it is the premise of a captivating, genre-bending performance. I finally had the chance to witness Ballet at the Bar by Triinu Upkin, a production helmed by the professional Estonian musician and ballet dancer known widely as the “#singingballerina.” The show is an exceptional and refreshing mix of dance, live music, and a witty, dramatic look into the demanding daily life of a ballerina. #TriinuUpkin #BalletAtTheBar #Heldeke #SingingBallerina #EstonianCulture #TallinnEvents #BalletReview #DanceJournalism #LivePerformance #CabaretBallet #ContemporaryDance #ArtsAndCulture #PointeShoesAndPunchlines #DanceInteractive #StageReview https://tunitemusic.com/post/ballet-at-the-bar-by-triinu-upkin-a-review/

The dream of independent music distribution is simple: upload a track from a bedroom studio in Tallinn, and instantly connect with a global audience. But as the landscape of streaming grows increasingly crowded, the financial reality for independent creators is starkly different from the digital promise. For modern independent artists, especially those pushing boundaries in instrumental, ambient, and avant-garde genres, the traditional reliance on global streaming platforms is being fundamentally re-evaluated. #estonianculture #music #estonianmusic #independentmusician #musician #spotify #streaming #musicstreaming https://tunitemusic.com/post/navigating-royalties-for-estonias-independent-musicians/
