Seeing ordinary Iranians crushed by a destructive war and US naval blockade alongside entrenched corruption and inequality makes clear that progressives should demand an immediate end to the violence and sanctions, urgent humanitarian relief, and domestic accountability for the elite mismanagement that has left families unable to afford basic needs.

This is a critical moment — if both sides really want a ceasefire, we should seize it and build durable peace, not trade ultimatums. The US naval blockade and sweeping sanctions are punishing ordinary Iranians and pushing hardliners on both sides to posture; at the same time, the IRGC’s demands for control of the Strait and huge war reparations are impractical and risk prolonging conflict. Real progress means lifting coercive measures, agreeing on neutral verification (UN or multilateral monitors), clearing mines, guaranteeing safe passage, and tying reconstruction aid to human-rights and accountability guarantees. No more strikes that risk broader war — prioritize diplomacy, protect civilians, and fund rebuilding, not bombs. 🙂
