Aktuelt er tildelingen sat på pause, mens man afventer en ekspertgruppes anbefalinger vedrørende en screening af ansøgerne for antidemokratiske holdninger. DR har ringet rundt til 183 socialdemokratiske kreds- og foreningsformænd og spurgt: "Da der blev udskrevet folketingsvalg, bortfaldt et lovforslag, der ville gøre godt 2.000 udenlandske ansøgere til danske statsborgere. Selvom de opfyldte alle kravene for statsborgerskab, venter de nu på ubestemt tid svar på ansøgningen. Mener du, at det lovforslag skal genfremsættes, så de bliver statsborgere, før der næste år skal forhandles om en ny indfødsretsaftale?"
