Genau darum geht es im August vor einem Bundesgericht in Washington D.C.: Das eigene Justizministerium des Präsidenten soll seit Monaten FBI-Vernehmungsnotizen zurückhalten – Teil des Materials zu jener Frau, die Trump direkten sexuellen Missbrauch als Minderjährige vorwirft. Bislang unbestätigt, vom Ministerium stets zurückgewiesen. Trotzdem: Genau diese Notizen fehlen weiterhin, obwohl Richter Sullivan ihre Freigabe längst angeordnet hatte. DOJ-Anwalt Andrew Block bringt zur Anhörung einen zusätzlichen Aktenordner mit, laut AP-Bericht – doch nach den fehlenden Notizen gefragt, bleibt er kurz angebunden: Die Dokumente seien den bereits vorgelegten maschinengeschriebenen Berichten weitgehend gleichwertig. "Ich habe nichts mehr zu sagen", so Block laut CNN. Sullivan lässt das nicht auf sich beruhen. Vor vollem, komplett stillem Saal erzählt er knapp eine halbe Stunde lang von einem eigenen, zwanzig Jahre zurückliegenden Fall: dem Verfahren gegen den damaligen Senator Ted Stevens, in dem er Regierungsanwälte wegen mangelnder Transparenz tatsächlich in Contempt of Court versetzte. Seine Botschaft an diesem Donnerstag fällt eindeutig aus: "Das ist keine Drohung. Das ist ein Versprechen." Ziviler Contempt könnte für die DOJ-Anwälte Geldstrafen oder Haft bedeuten – und ihnen laut AP noch Jahre später im Weg stehen, etwa bei einer künftigen Richterernennung. Und trotzdem bleibt ein Dämpfer: Richter James Boasberg stellte im vergangenen Jahr in einem anderen Verfahren gegen dieselbe Regierung eine wahrscheinliche Grundlage für Contempt fest – am Ende blockierte der Berufungsgerichtshof des D.C. Circuit das Verfahren vollständig, so Courthouse News. Ob Sullivans Drohung mehr wiegt, entscheidet am Ende nicht er selbst.
