Er bleek te weinig materiaal uit het beenmergonderzoek te zijn verkregen, waardoor er nog een tweede beenmergpunctie nodig was. Vanwege mijn angst voor de ingreep heb ik gevraagd of dit, indien mogelijk, onder narcose kon gebeuren. Gelukkig werd hier gehoor aan gegeven en ging de arts zelf mee naar de operatiekamer. Toen ik wakker werd, vertelde de arts mij dat er voldoende materiaal was afgenomen. Daarna volgde opnieuw een periode van wachten totdat alle onderzoeken waren afgerond. Uiteindelijk kwam de uitslag: ik had systemische mastocytose met MDS.

Brief – Overzicht van mijn ziekteverloop Geachte lezer, Graag wil ik u informeren over mijn medische situatie en het verloop van de afgelopen periode. Ik ben Jack, bijna 65 jaar, en samen met mijn vrouw Marja, bijna 64 jaar, hebben wij drie kinderen en drie kleinkinderen: Rayan, Alisha en Liana. Dit medicijn mag alleen worden voorgeschreven door het Erasmus MC en het UMCG. Mijn lichaam moest wennen aan de medicatie, maar helaas ontstond er een ernstige bijwerking. Door de combinatie met de mestcellen in mijn lichaam ontstond er vochtophoping in mijn buik. Ziekenhuisopnames Ik werd opgenomen in het Amphia Ziekenhuis, waar een drain werd geplaatst om het vocht af te tappen. In totaal werd er 26 liter vocht verwijderd. Na een verhoging van de medicatie kreeg ik opnieuw last van vochtophoping, waarna nog eens 18 liter werd afgetapt. Een derde opname volgde na een dosisaanpassing, waarbij 12 liter vocht werd verwijderd. Na deze opnames is besloten om plasmedicatie te geven om het vocht beter onder controle te houden. Nieuwe complicaties Half augustus kreeg ik pijnstilling voor mijn rug voorgeschreven. Hier reageerde ik heftig op: ik had vier dagen last van overgeven en diarree, waardoor ik niet zelfstandig kon lopen. Marja heeft mij in deze periode geholpen en ondersteund. De klachten hielden drie weken aan. Voeding en triggers Op dit moment ben ik bezig om te ontdekken welke voedingsmiddelen klachten veroorzaken. Voorlopig moet ik onder andere alcohol, chocolade, tomaten, vis en producten uit blik vermijden, omdat deze de mestcellen activeren.
