Nach den für die Koalitionsparteien Union und SPD katastrophal verlaufenen Landtagswahlen im Herbst und dem Bruch der Thüringer Koalition Mitte Dezember tauscht die CDU den Kanzler aus. Die wenigen Unions- Abgeordneten , die zur AfD übergetreten sind und zur Kanzlermehrheit fehlen, spielen keine Rolle mehr, da Wüst die Grünen mit in eine neue Kenia- Koalition eingebracht hat. Lars Klingbeil und Bärbel Bas sind nicht mehr SPD-Vorsitzende. Neu im Kabinett unter anderem Bildungsministerin Anna-Lena Baerbock, die sich der Aufgabe nach drei Auftritten an der Columbia natürlich gewachsen sieht. Um das sehr geschrumpfte Merz-Lager einzubinden wird Philipp Amthor neuer Regierungssprecher im Ministerrang. Die SPD setzt sich bei der Besetzung des Gesundheitsministeriums durch und freut sich auf Prof. Karl Lauterbach. Leiter des Kanzleramts wird Nathanael Liminski, der auch die Direkte Pressearbeit des Kanzlers koordiniert. Das erste große Wüst- Interview wird in der taz erscheinen. Die Ministerien Außen-,Entwicklung und - Umwelt werden aus Spargründen zusammengelegt und von Daniel Günther geführt, der sich auch noch für andere Ministerien angeboten hatte.
