Mario Lochner wrote that he finds the idea that the state should set all prices to be alarmingly widespread and described it as economic madness and populism. To provide context, he pointed out that the National Socialists capped the price of beer shortly after they came to power: at the Munich Oktoberfest in 1933, the price for a Maß was set at 90 pfennigs by order. #Wirtschaft #Populismus #Geschichte (translated)
Petr Holec noted that former German President Christian Wulff resigned on February 17, 2012, after just 20 months in office due to allegations of corruption and receiving benefits from entrepreneurs. According to information he cited from Echo24, Wulff, a CDU politician who was pushed into office in 2010 by Chancellor Angela Merkel, faced criticism for his contacts with business people during the time he was leading the government of Lower Saxony from 2003 to 2010. Holec also stated that there were suspicions that Wulff accepted invitations for vacations and other benefits. Investigators, according to him, focused on his relationship with film producer David Groenewold, who allegedly covered some of Wulff's hotel stays on the island of Sylt and expenses related to a visit to the Munich Oktoberfest. Wulff claimed that these were private friendly relationships and that he subsequently paid the costs. Holec further wrote that Petr Pavel is allegedly set to announce his resignation as president on Monday at 9:00 and to apologize to the public for its undignified performance. #politika #korupce #česko (translated)
