Ik ben tijdens mijn correspondentschap in de ex-USSR veel en langdurig in oorlogssituaties geweest. Het leven aan het front is oneindig veel intenser, je doet ervaringen op die de rest van je leven beïnvloeden, leert uitzonderlijke - en levensgevaarlijke - mensen kennen en je leert vooral ook jezelf kennen.
