It is of course fascinating that we, as young people in the 80s and 90s, were so fully positioned against war. Who hasn’t had to read “All Quiet on the Western Front” over and over, was encouraged by teachers to participate in demonstrations against armament, and wondered about the few who joined the Bundeswehr voluntarily? And today you turn on the television, and they tell us almost euphorically and in a loop how ports are being made war-capable and investments in armaments are being made, while afterwards documentaries about the stimulating everyday life of soldiers as young people are presented, as if that has always been the case and overall is also a positive development.
